After a hectic two weeks off (okay, so I took a little more than that!) I am back, but not quite at full speed. Yesterday was pretty bad, I am still not focusing 100% on school. Hopefully I will be full speed next week.

Over the break, my aunt passed away in Snowflake, Arizona. She had never married and we were all the family she had. My mother had been caring for her at a small apartment in the back portion of her property. After my aunt's death, my mom wanted us (re: my sister and I) to help her clear out the apartment. My aunt could have been considered a "hoarder." So I spent much of my break looking at every sheet of paper that my aunt had saved for the last few years (maybe 10 or more!). Then we buried her over in California. So I am sorry that I have not been fully focused on school. I am still a little sleep deprived and the one-day fly to and back to California really wiped me out.

Now back to school stuff. Upcoming calendar for kindergarten:

• Saturday October 23 Halloween Carnival and Maze, Mountain View High School 10 am - 6 pm
• Thursday October 28 Field trip to the Buckelew Pumpkin Patch
• Wednesday November 10 Veteran's Day Program at school, 10 am
• Thursday November 11 Veteran's Day, No school
• Thursday and Friday November 25 and 26 Thanksgiving, No school

We have changed our PE schedule. We now have PE on Tuesday and Thursday. Please remember to have your children wear appropriate footwear on those days.

Friday September 24, 2010

This Friday, Sept. 24, we will be having a short day, leaving at 10 am. Our former music teacher, Mrs. Matthies, passed away on Monday and the funeral will be Friday. Most of the kindergarten children only knew her for a few weeks and were quite confused about who had passed away when I was telling them.

We have a number of items coming up in the near future:

• Constitution Program -- Saturday September 18 -- 9 am practice, 6:30 pm program
• Kindergarten Opening -- Friday September 24 -- 8:15 am
• Field Trip to the Zoo -- Thursday September 30 -- 8:15 am
• Half Day -- Thursday September 30
• End of Quarter -- Friday October 1
• Report Cards mailed out -- Wednesday October 6
• Two Week Fall Break -- Monday October 4 through Friday October 15

I want to thank all the parents who have come in and helped in the classroom. The children really enjoy all the time they spend with you. Your time is greatly appreciated by both the children and myself.

Hello Family and Friends of Carden Kindergarten!

My name is Mrs. Binkley and I am the teacher of 16 wonderful 5-year-olds at Carden. I am enjoying getting to know your children and hope they also are having an enjoyable experience at school.

Upcoming events:

• DIBELS testing week of August 30 - September 3 This is a state mandated test which is conducted three times per year. It is done individually with each child. For this first testing period I will be testing their ability to recognize and identify beginning sounds and letter names.
• Progress Reports in homework folders Tuesday August 31
